Summer Film Camp

In the summer of 2013, The College of Art and Humanities African American Studies in collaboration with To The Table Inc. present the revitalization of Central Florida Summer Film Camp. 

In the summer of 2006 Anthony B. Major, a professor at the University of Central Florida, set out to given children of the Paramore area an opportunity to experience the art of filming making, which he loves, first hand. For the children of Paramore they were able to experience art of writing, director, and producing their own stories. 

In 2011 while filming Miserably Single, I was made aware of the dissolving of this summer program due to budget cut backs. I asked myself “what if” I had been exposed to a summer camp such as this at their age, where would I be? What creativity has been missing the needed nurturing to flourish?  With software and technology readily available at the purchase of a laptop computer. I believe this summer camp is the right summer camp for our times.  

I remember as a child the words of Lee Norris Rayam, over coming the challenges of life as a mountain mover. I am personally committing 2,000 dollars toward this fundraising campaign but I can’t do this alone. My goal is to reach 60 people to establish the foundation needed for this program to continue for years to come. I’m asking you to join me in the revitalization of the Summer Film Camp for 2013, to match my contribution that we create the village that will establish a legacy through modern creativity while continuing the message of empowering participants to bemountain movers. Providing at risk youth with the opportunity to positively express them selves through multimedia, the art of storytelling.

I am a mountain mover; I am the child the village raised.
